I’ve been to most of these places and they are beautiful. I was born in Seattle. I like to tell visitors that Seattleites don’t tan, we rust. This is an excellent article about the Pacific Northwest, and Western Canada. Victoria is a wonderful city.
Hi Ned, Glad you enjoyed the article. What are your favorite spots to check out in the PNW? We’d love to hear!
I was born in Swedish Hospital in 1931, so I am getting more “rusty” by the day!! If visitors complain about our rain, remind them of all the back-breaking snow shoveling going on back East every year, or of the terrifying tornadoes, or hurricanes (now those are full of REAL RAIN) down South. Besides, we really don’t want ’em all to move here…. We love visiting Kirkland and the beach at Moss Bay. Going to the Locks in Ballard never gets tiresome especially when followed up with fish and chips (or other delicious food) at Ray’s Boathouse where we can watch boats coming or going from the Locks. Alki Beach is a fabulous place to eat and view beautiful downtown Seattle, and a visit to the Shilshole Marina as well as the marina at Magnolia (drive visitors up Dravis Street for a real thrill) is a must. We enjoy the Science Center (from the World’s Fair in 1962), and if your visitors have working legs, a walk around Seward Park is delightful. Of course, The Pike Street Market is a must!! Check out the PIG there…. Well, that’s a start for our favorite city in the whole USA!!
Great tip Laverne! Those are a few of our favorite spots too.
We like Grand Coulee area and Ellensburg is a fantastic place to visit too.
Thanks Helen! There is some gorgeous scenery over in Eastern Washington.
You are right. How about Lake Chelan and Leavenworth?
Great article. Have lived 30 years in West Seattle, the birthplace of Seattle. Your list shows the huge diversity of options in the great Pacific Northwest. Many of these objectives could be a home base themselves, from which to explore out to dozens more perhaps equally exceptional experiences. For example, spend a sizzling day on the crescent beach on Alki a few blocks away from me – in the Summer, or snorkel/scuba other times. Elliott Bay is supposed to be home to the worlds largest octopus. Before I go, just one more not to miss thing would be the thundering Snoqualmie Falls, less than an hour east of Seattle, best in the Spring snow melt season. OK, one more – the literally thousands of hiking trails that crisscross the entire region get you far far up and away to heavenly places.
Thanks! The PNW is indeed a great jumping off place for a variety of activities. We definitely enjoy taking advantage of our natural wonders from beaches to trails.
I’d like to take folks to the Fremont Troll when I’m hosting a tour of the city, usually before we go to the Locks.
Hi Cheryl,
Nice, the troll is one of our go-to spots to take visitors too!
I have been to near all of these locations, these are only a few beautiful places of the great pacific northwest. what beautiful work you have created to show our magical backyard. I have lived here in the Puget sound area for 50 years. this is where we dream to live— to find our paradise— I did.
Nice write ups but unfortunately 1 of my less doesn”t work so can’t travel!?
