Explore the wonders of the Salish Sea at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre, Sidney, BC on the Saanich Peninsula

Located in a spectacular 10,000 sq/ft waterfront location, the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre is designed to provide visitors of all generations an opportunity to gain new insight into the ocean and what we can each do to cherish and respect the ocean ecosystem. Visitors will come to understand the ocean in a new way. The Centre is a place of wonder and exploration and a gateway to nature. It establishes a new relationship between our community and the ocean that surrounds and defines us.

Live marine life of the Salish Sea is showcased in 17 massive aquarium habitats. Thousands of fish, invertebrates and marine plant life including giant octopus to microscopic plankton are at home here in 87 tonnes of seawater contained behind huge acrylic viewing panels.

A radically designed classroom, The Ocean’s Heartbeat, is equipped with discovery streams, specialized aquariums, microscopes and all the tools and technology of learning.
